چکیده

Observing the ultraviolet (UV) sky for time-varyiable phenomena is one of many exciting science goals that can be achieved by a relatively small aperture telescope in space. The Near Ultraviolet Transient Surveyor (NUTS) wide-field (3∘) imager with photon-counting detector near-UV (NUV, 200 – 300 nm), to flown on an upcoming satellite mission. It has Ritchey–Chrétien (RC) design correction optics enable observations while minimizing optical aberrations. We have used intensified CMOS solar blind photocathode, operated mode. main goal instrument observation transient sources UV, including flare stars, supernovae, and active galactic nuclei. NUTS’s size effective area unexplored, brighter parts UV which are usually not accessible larger missions. designed, fabricated, assembled instrument, final calibrations environmental tests being carried out. In this paper, we provide scientific motivation technical overview describe assembly calibration steps.

Ultraviolet Observations of NGC 3516 using the Hopkins Ultraviolet Telescope

We observed the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 3516 twice during the flight of Astro-2 using the Hopkins Ultraviolet Telescope aboard the space shuttle Endeavour in March 1995. Simultaneous X-ray observations were performed with ASCA. Our far-ultraviolet spectra cover the spectral range 820–1840 Å with a resolution of 2–4 Å. No significant variations were found between the two observations. The total spe...

Jovian Atmosphere: Near-Ultraviolet Absorption

Greenspan and Owen (1), in a stimulating discussion of the Jovian atmosphere, have reconsidered Stecher's (2) rocket ultraviolet spectroscopy of Jupiter. They conclude that, while the general reflectivity between 2000 and 3000 A can be matched by some 12 km-atm of H2 and a small surface reflectivity, there still exist two significant absorption features in this wavelength range. This residual a...

The near ultraviolet photodissociation dynamics of azomethane

The photodissociation of azomethane following absorption of a single 351 nm photon was studied using the method of molecular beam photofragment translational spectroscopy. The dissociation was observed to proceed via cleavage of both C-N bonds to yield N2 and two methyl radicals. The measured time-of-flight spectra show evidence that the two methyl radicals possess unequal velocities in the azo...

Evaluation of solar ultraviolet radiation in Zanjan city using the ultraviolet index

Background and Objective: Monitoring the amount of ultraviolet radiation from sunlight can provide a basis for assessing people's exposure, raise public awareness and warn people against this radiation. Measuring the sun's ultraviolet index over a working period is an accurate choice to achieve this goal. Materials and Methods: In this study, the amount of solar UV index in one of the outdoor ...
